Hardworking, honest and relatable after 25 years together, there is not much that Sarah and Jason haven’t weathered. Six years ago they suffered crippling financial difficulties, which saw Jason’s plumbing business eventually go under. At the same time Sarah lost her father and things looked very bleak. But they soldiered on, pulled themselves out of the depths, and refocused their lives. Jason returned to work as a plumber and Sarah moved from working as a nurse in neurosurgery to palliative care. It has given this couple a new perspective on their lives. “You think you are doing it bad and then you hear about someone 25 dying of cancer, and they have only got a few weeks to live. And you go, ‘Oh my God, we are so lucky’,” says Jason. “You do appreciate what you have, even if it might not be what you want,” adds Sarah. They have been renovating their home for 10 years, a situation not helped by the collapse of Jason’s business, and now they see The Block as their potential ticket to a better life.
