The Block 2024 Everything you need to know

Welcome Maddy & Charlotte!

With Jesse and Paige's shock decision to leave The Block, new couple Maddy and Charlotte dropped everything and moved the Phillip Island within a matter of days.

The youngest team to ever compete on The Block, sisters from Sydney, Maddy (24) and Charlotte (22) are also among the most experienced contestants when it comes to renovations.

While working in accounting and multiple odd jobs, such as babysitting, tutoring, shifts at McDonald’s, and piano teaching, they realised their real passion was for renovating and saved their hard-earned cash to put towards the purchase of a fixer-upper, a shack in Newcastle, when they were 21 and 19 respectively .

“It has taken a lot of sacrifices to get where we are,” Maddy said. “I think our generation believe things come easy, but there is nothing that has come easy with what we have done and achieved.” The shack in Newcastle has since been renovated, subdivided, and sold in 2022. They now have multiple builds on the go, with more planned, while still juggling their odd jobs and working in the family business.

“Our goal is to create a beautiful home that’s welcoming, warm, comfortable and a special place for families to make precious memories,” Charlotte said. “We hope to grow as individuals, push ourselves to our absolute limits, and inspire young people who may also want to pursue a dream or do something very different.”

“We are anticipating the challenges and stresses that are about to come,” Maddy said. “I have no doubt we will struggle and be pushed far out of our comfort zone.” The girls owe it to watching The Block for the inspiration to become renovators, builders and entrepreneurs in their own right – now it's their turn!

Block Island - Epic 20th Season

It's almost time to celebrate 20 years of The Block as we get ready for Block Island to hit our screens on Monday August 12 at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

For the 20th season, The Block is heading to Phillip Island, the coastal holiday hotspot for Melbournians who enjoy this stunning island only two hours from the Melbourne CBD.

Block Island will bring together five couples from around Australia who will build their dream home that could change their lives forever come auction day.

The Blockheads will transform an abandoned ghost town holiday resort into a luxury coastal village - designed by Block architect Julian Brenchley.

Host Scott Cam is Philip Island for his 18th season and Shelley Craft is back for her 17th season!

This year Dan Reilly takes the role of Foreman, replacing Keith Schleiger who was unable to move to Phillip Island for the three months of production.

Additionally we said goodbye to veteran judge Neale Whitaker who passed the baton to real estate guru Marty Fox. Marty joins Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer to judge the spectacular rooms with the brief of creating a perfect holiday home.

However, Block fans will be glad to hear that both Keith and Neale will be making special guest appearances this season.

The Block couples who will start the renovations on Phillip Island are:

Carpenter Jesse (29) and claims specialist Paige (27) – engaged couple from WA

Electrician Kristian (31) and restaurant manager Mimi (28) – newlyweds from SA

Plumber Ricky (34) and IT worker Haydn (37) – best mates from VIC

Events account director and furniture designer Courtney (32) and landscape business development manager Grant (29) – married couple from NSW

Hairdresser and business owner Kylie (37) and electrician and plumber Brad (32) – married parents from QLD

Season 20 of The Block will also be celebrated with a number of fan favourites returning to the show to lend a helping hand for this monster build. Plus, as this season builds to the auction, a select group of Allstars will be helping this year’s Blockheads to create something never seen on the Block before.

The returning Allstar Blockheads include:

Steph and Gian (2023), Eliza and Liberty (2023), Jimmy and Tam (2020), Alisa and Lysandra (2013, 2014), Ronnie and Georgia (2020, 2021), Michael and Carlene (2014), Kyal and Kara (2014), Tom and Sarah-Jane (2022), Omar and Oz (2022), Dale and Sophie (2012), and Andy and Deb (2019).

The picturesque backdrop of Phillip Island is the perfect location to celebrate the 20th season of the ratings juggernaut created by Julian Cress and David Barbour. They have plans to celebrate everything Phillip Island has to offer and show it off to Australia and the world.

Neale Whitaker steps down as a judge in 2024

Neale Whitaker has confirmed he is permanently handing his judging baton over to Marty Fox for the 2024 season of The Block.

In an Instagram post made today, Neale confirmed that he has made the decision to spend as much time at home as possible to support his partner David, who is unwell.

“We all hoped that by this year I would be able to return full-time to the show but life doesn’t always run to schedule. David gets stronger with each passing month but my decision remains to be at home as much as possible, said Neale.

Neale has however kept fans happy by confirming that he will be making some guest appearances during this year’s show.

“So while you’ll see me on Phillip Island from time to time, I’ve handed my judging sheet permanently to Marty Fox (who stepped in so brilliantly last season) and I know he will have a blast with Shaynna and Darren as I did for 17 years.

Neale also took the time to thank The Block creators Julian and Cress and David Barbour for having faith in him all those years ago, his fellow judges who have become good friends and the entire production team and crew.

“We have so many amazing contestants whose lives have been changed significantly over the years, and in some cases, they have built global businesses off the back of their appearances on The Block. So we are going to make sure we invite many of them to appear on the show this year.”

Where is the 2024 season located?

It was confirmed in October 2023 that the home of The Block in 2024 will be on Phillip Island.

Just two hours from Melbourne and connected to the mainland via a bridge, Phillip Island offers residents the best of both worlds and is perfect for anyone hunting for a life in paradise.

It offers a bewitching blend of sleepy island life with metropolitan energy. It's a simple visit to the mainland to get your fix of the big city buzz... and when you're done, you can return to your gentle coastal paradise.

Images via realestate.com.au show a pool, tennis court and 10 buildings, the big question is what will they end up being? We actually cannot wait to see!

It may be an Island, but there's a lot to keep residents busy. Local shops and great cafes, walking trails, a winery, golf range and stunning parks and reserves makes this a truly spectacular place to live.

Phillip Island is already a holiday hotspot for Melbournians, and has become a household name across Australia thanks to its spectacular coastal scenery, unique wildlife, family-fun activities and thick bushland.

The area is home to one of the largest Little Penguin colonies in the world, with one of the most popular tourist attractions being the Nature Park's Penguin Parade.

The Block 2024 will be located in Cowes which is to the north of the island, where the median house price is $796k according to realestate.com.au, let's wait and see what happens when The Block comes to town.

There's also the opportunity to spot fur seals up-close, hand-feed kangaroos and watch whales migrating past in the winter.

The area is home to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, which has become a must-visit for both auto-enthusiasts and general visitors thanks to its rich history and exhilarating events throughout the year.

Phillip Island is home to some of the best surfing spots in the country, as well as epic dining experiences and fishing spots. What's not to love?

Phillip Island is a great destination for our 2024 teams to renovate a home, and we can't wait to see what they create!
