Domica Hill is a Contemporary Aboriginal Artist and began painting more as a way of healing after the loss of her first luwutina (child), a little girl named Briar. Originally a secondary school teacher, she is now finding her path exploring symbols and stories from past ancestors. She is continually learning, combining her knowledge, talent and life experiences and extend them into her work. Domica’s style is contemporary and vibrant combined with some traditional elements. She believes our skin colour does not define us, but our history, family, bloodline and experiences are what create our identity. This is expressed deeply through the story work and symbolism in her pieces.

‘Waranta Tapilti Journey’ meaning lets go on a journey in palawa kani language. This piece shows 3 different paths/tracks with meeting places along the way. This represents rest stops or places or significance along a journey. When travelling we leave footprints and add more tracks to the earth as we walk. The larger dots around the paths are depicting all the different footprints that have walked the many journeys on our country.
