Lupul Jukurrpa Red Framed Art Print

Urban Road

Artist: Helen Nungarrayi Reed

ARTWORK STORY

Helen Reed has painted a jukurrpa (dreaming) related to water. This story is associated to a rock-hole site, Lupul south of Kintore. The Jukurrpa tells the story of the rainbow serpent travelling through the country creating large storms, with the storms the land flourishes creating the flora and fauna.

The dreaming associated to Lupul rockhole also is connected to the Two women Jukurrpa. This dreaming tells the story of two women travelling through the country and performing ceremonies, during the ceremonies the use hair-string skirts.

ARTIST STORY

Helen Nungarrayi Reed was born in 1971 in Hass Bluff, a community located 227 km west of Alice Springs in NT of Australia. She grew up in Kintore, a small Aboriginal community with a population of about 400, located 550 km west of Alice Springs, near the NT/WA border, where her father and sister still live.

Helen has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre located in Yuendumu, since 2014. She paints her father’s Ninkuwakal country. She likes painting because it reminds her of her father and the colours remind her of her country.of Australia’s First Nations people and our rich diverse cultures.I have created many commissioned artworks for private collectors and corporate organisations, both national and international.
