"Our goal is to have as little impact on the environment while creating the best pieces of furniture possible. We only use sustainably sourced and recycled Australian hardwoods.We don't use timbers such as American Oak or Walnut or any overseas timbers as they are not a sustainable option here in Australia. We believe we have the best timbers on earth right here in Australia, so there is no need for us to venture overseas." Pete said.

"We have a legendary dog called Woody who is on our logo. He has become somewhat the 'Boss' around here. He's a bit of a hit on our socials."

"All of our sawdust goes to local chicken coops, horse stables and peoples composts. All of our offcuts go to local schools for woodworking projects. Nothing goes to waste."

Absolutely nothing in the factory goes to waste, with local community, schools and animals reaping the rewards of this sustainable business.

"We started Common Wood Co over 6 years ago in a rented garage. We now have a small, highly skilled team who love what they do. Every piece is carefully created from scratch by us in our Marrickville factory here in Sydney. We take the time to make sure each piece is individual and to the best possible quality."

Pete, started out making small timber giftware items such as chopping boards for local market stalls using recycled materials. He soon realized that there was a gap in the market for high-quality, bespoke and sustainable furniture, and decided to start Common Wood Co to fill that need.

Since then, the company has grown to become one of the most popular and innovative furniture brands in Sydney, with a strong emphasis on using eco-friendly materials and practices. In addition to his use of recycled materials, Pete also focuses on sustainability in his manufacturing processes. He uses water-based finishes and no-VOC (volatile organic compound) paints and oils to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals released into the environment during the manufacturing process. Not only that but all the sawdust is donated to local communities for gardens, chook pens and even horse stables.

Any offcuts of timber go to schools in the area for woodworking classes and is also offered as free firewood during the colder months.
