Sticks & Wombat Up to mischief - “I once ripped my ear off”

Sticks and Wombat’s friendship goes way back. Needless to say, along the way, they’ve got up to plenty of mischief. And they’ve got the war wounds to show for it.

“We’ve got up to some pretty stupid things,” Sticks admits. “But in saying that, not as much anymore. Because, as you get a bit older, and you have kids, you have your family to think of. So we take it a bit easier now.”

Having said that, there have been plenty of near-misses for the boys - and one injury that stands out particularly for Wombat.  

“Back in the day, I actually split my ear off the side of my face at a buck’s party,” he says. “Two guys were hanging on to the inner ring of a cable drum. We got this small guy, and we jammed him in the middle, and me and his brother hung on the outside. We’d link hands, and away we would go, rolling downhill.

“But he let go at the bottom, and it flew up at me, and the cable bit rode over my face, and ripped my ear off!”

Ouch - sounds painful.

That same ‘give anything a go’ spirit was what saw the unlikely duo decide to apply for The Block.

“I said to Wombat, ‘Like, should we go on The Block, Wombat? And he was, like, ‘Sure!’ and that’s all it took,” Wombat laughs.

“Sticks just said, ‘Come round tomorrow and we’ll make a movie’ - and that was it.

“We brainstormed for half an hour - and then we did it.”
