Octavia Tomyn

Octavia is a Melbourne based artist who previously worked as a designer in the fashion industry for over 12 years. She has worked for some of Australia’s biggest retailers as well as high end international designers such as Marc Jacobs and Christopher Kane in New York and London. She has now returned to the creative expression and art form she has practiced since her school years and which eventually led her to explore a career in design.

Octavia’s current work is inspired by her life as a mother, woman and extrovert. She explores the complex and intimate relationships, connections and emotions of humans, capturing these through the simplicity and movement of a bare line.

Octavia’s faith plays a leading role in her life and she acknowledges that her skills are given to be shared with others. Octavia meditates and prays over her work before she begins, contemplating a thought or concept and thinking of the work’s new home and owner. The prayer gives her inspiration to begin, being led by thought, feeling and emotion. It is as if the prayer continues, wordless, onto the paper.
