My name is Karen Lee (Mungarrja) a Wiradjuri (people's of the three rivers) artist of the Tubba-Gah clan,Dubbo NSW.

In Indigenous culture traditional name's are given by elders ' Mungarrja' meaning Mountain was given to be by my Uncle Michael Gararroongoo Huddleston a Roper River elder.

I am a mother and grandmother ( gammi ) living and working and living on Darug country in Penrith, NSW and for the majority of my life it has been home.

I've had many jobs, LoL, everything from sales, cleaner, working in a laundry mat to a singing teacher when my children were young. I started my art career later in life beginning with my art degree at 35 which took me 6 year to complete while working. I had no idea of what would come and I still am amazed that it has evolved into something I would never have dreamt of.

While studying I was exposed to a variety of art and this is where my interest in the concept of 'Memory' developed.

Using traditional symbols and title's of song lyrics I create compositions and stories to evoke the emotional cues that explore the connection of place and memory .

As Indigenous people's moved around they created songs to map significant sites,food sources and places that were passed down through generations. Taking a contemporary approach of the tradition of Songlines in Aboriginal culture, I am interested in how music and lyrics have a strong connection to memory. The sound of music can transport us to a time passed, the words can evoke an even deeper emotional response.

My art hangs in the homes of private collections Both here and overseas and in many public spaces including hospitals, schools and government departments.
