“Why can’t you have comfort in your own home?” On a cold night in 2013, after moving into our newly built home, I decided to open a bottle of red wine. Being a new house, and not much furniture, the couch arm was the only place close enough for my arm to reach. Within five minutes, an overzealous right arm knocked a full glass of red wine onto a nice, expensive white rug, causing a marriage-threatening stain. Vowing such a spill would never happen again, the next day I made a Couchmate prototype in my garage. Thanks to that design, my wife and I saved money by not having to buy a bulky and expensive coffee table; and it gave our little one more room to run around and play. (We did eventually buy a new rug!) I learned a valuable lesson that night: everyone deserves comfort and ease in their own home!
