The Block 2024 | Room Reveal Main Bedroom

With newcomers Maddy and Charlotte now settled in and budgets starting to bite, The Blockheads had even more reason to show what they can do in their master – oops, sorry their *main* bedrooms this week.

Courtney and Grant (First place)

“Yum!” said Darren as he took in Grant and Courtney’s Moditerranean main, from the arched ceiling, nib walls to hide the HomePro sheers, bullnose plaster accents and more, this was a room, Marty declared, that was “THE most marketable room that's been delivered on The Block in 2024”. Beautifully styled with stunning artwork, a Globe West Occasional chair, Kolbi Luna Moon side table and Create Estate Fern bed, Shaynna agreed, this was going to be hard to beat. In the Kinsman wardrobe, the shelving, stone, leather texture on the cabinetry all drew praise, with Marty wondering if he could be a bidder himself.

Kristian and Mimi (Tied First place)

From the raked ceiling with HomePro sheers, to the Wave bedhead, Foundation bedbase and Dot ottoman (from Steph and Gian’s new Japandi Estate collection) and beautiful Artist Lane artworks including the Cape Woolamai Phillip Island piece from Ella Boylan, this was a room that screamed “Coastal Holiday” for Marty. Not everything was perfect however, with unfinished paintwork and  mismatched door handles bothering Shaynna and the LED lighting next to the couple’s trademark Porta Timber feature a bit jarring for Marty. Darren found the bedside light switches too far away and only one bedside lamp an unusual choice, but overall, they agreed it was a great room… very nearly worth a ten! The wardrobe with new Budino Walnut joinery and Hafele upgrades was a winner, they all agreed, with its drop-down hangers, luxurious leather boxes, trouser racks, shoe drawers and more. “Luxury upon luxury!” Darren said.

Kylie and Brad (Third  place)

Classy and luxe while still keeping Kylie’s dark and moody palette, house four’s main was a huge win with the judge. “Talk about personality!” Marty gushed. “The Shou Sugi Ban feature wall is incredible with the up lighting,” Shaynna said, pointing to the burgundy accents, metallic Grafico ceiling, the Arthur console, Wyatt Milan bedside and Bonnie Occasional chair all from Globe West. “This works so well!”. From the functionality of the Mitsubishi split-system to the  nods to feng shui, everything just worked, they agreed. Into the wardrobe and the compliments continued, with another Grafico ceiling and wall, a complementing Wild Yarn Marley rug, and perfect panelling choices. The only criticism came from Shaynna, who wished the styling had gone a little more upmarket than ripped jean shorts. Overall however, it was a success, the judges agreed: “Like walking into a jewellery box!” Darren said.

Maddy and Charlotte (Fourth  place)

With an elevated neutral palette and floor-to-ceiling crushed linen sheers, the judges were relieved to see Maddy and Charlotte had embraced a more coastal look to replace the previous Blockhead’s “Grandma Chic”. With the Velux skylight overhead and Hardie Groove feature wall, with the Bordeaux Candle and T. House Zoi bowl just right, this was a great start, they agreed – but it was time to think big! The Kave Home Luisa armchair and bedsides could have been larger, Shaynna said. Into the Kinsman wardrobe and Darren was instantly in love, the colours are all on trend he said, with the fittings executed well. With not one but three teams working on this room at various stages, it would have been tough, Marty said, but they were heading in the right direction.

Ricky and Haydn (Fifth place)

At first glance, the judges found a lot to like in Ricky and Haydn’s main retreat. From the Grafico wallpaper with custom palm trees, custom ceiling and panelling, Bohteak Bora Bora lamps and matching single teak Branch Mirror, it was all impressive they agreed. But Marty had a question: "Is the amount of effort needed to finish that ceiling the reason you clearly ran out of time?”. Because unlike other homes, the boys didn’t manage to complete the space in time. The Kinsman walk-in was complete and the judges loved the scalloped door profile plus Brown Bronze handles were a hit, but again they had questions. Why carpet this area when the bedroom had floorboards, ask Shaynna. Was the door really in the right place? Added Marty. Another room that looked rushed, summed up Darren, leaving them with: “An unfinished symphony.”
