The Block 2023: Bathroom and Redo Rooms
- 15 Oct 2023

With the Block homes nearly done, it’s time for one last wet area and the much-needed chance for the Blockheads to rectify their biggest mistake – whatever it is! – with a redo room.
For some that means fixing a space the weather had damaged, with others it’s the opportunity to bring a mis-matched project into line with the rest of the house and for one, a complete rebuild of an area the judges thought could cost them at auction.
It’s the perfect time to get back on track and to finish off the inside of the home before heading to the back and front yards, but it’s going to be tough, and for one team, time proved just too much of a challenge.
Eliza and Liberty

Transforming a room Marty said would have been better off empty to a studio that earned a “Bravo!” from Shaynna, Eliza and Liberty’s redo studio was a huge success.
A porta timber feature wall replaced the Grafico roadmap, the microwave was hidden away and the television relocated for a change that truly worked, the judges said. Only the furniture location needed a tweak, Darren said, but that was easily fixed.
Into the final bathroom and the jumbo terrazzo from Beaumont Tiles, immediately caught the eye, paired with dark green tiles, oak and brass for a sophisticated winning aesthetic.
Neale wasn’t sold on the styling, marking down the bathbombs and kids robes, but Shaynna was quick to point out the layout, execution and finish were near perfect. “A standout today!” she summed up.
Take a look back at Eliza and Liberty's studio here, before their amazing redo!
Eliza and Liberty secure a much needed win and funds with their kids bathroom and redo studio space wowing the judges!

The girls made the finishing touches on this space, including Grafico wallpaper and the art on the TV to match!
The studio is now the perfect space for guests, working from home, hopping out of the pool to go and read a book in this light filled space! This room now has the finess it was screaming out for.
The girls styling has certainly matured throughout this season of The Block, these two have been an absolute pleasure to watch. Shop the entire room here.

Neale's only criticism was the towels and styling, but that's an easy fix pointed out Shaynna. If you cant have fun styling a kids bathroom where can you but?
We have a pretty big crush on this unlikely colour combo the girls have created!
In our humble opinion, Nood Co basins have to be the MVP of this season of The Block, we LOVE them! The biggest problem is deciding on our fave?
Leah and Ash

From a weather damaged office to a perfectly executed fourth bedroom, the transformation of Leah and Ash’s redo room was “stunning”, Shaynna said.
Playing the solidity of the marble fireplace off the Palm Springs aesthetic in styling choices, this was a room all agreed fit the home’s eclectic style well. Their only fault was the missed opportunity of no seating in the bay window, but in all it was a successful redo that added a lot to the home.
Upstairs Darren was immediately taken by the statement bathtub, “superb” tiling choices, and the fact the toilet was perfectly placed. The basins sparked debate, but with horizontal towel rails and a functional floorplan, it was “a near perfect room” Darren summed up.
Big week for Leah and Ash their redo room was their water damaged office, a big enough job without adding a bathroom into the mix!
The transformation of Leah and Ash’s redo room was “stunning”, Shaynna said. And we have to agree this Palm Springs guest room oozes cool!
I was so pleased to see the fireplace stay and those incredible teal chairs were my fave from day one!
I would like to take a Palm Springs appreciation moment for that artwork! And I just love the storage available in this room!
The Nood Co Basins sparked debate alongside the mirrors from a functionality perspective, but from a looks perspective, it's a BIG YES from us here at The Block Shop. And because we know you will ask, shop the vase here at The Block Shop

Leah and Ash supplied a really beautiful bathroom this week, I'm dreaming of being in that bathtub with a cup of tea!
Steph and Gian

Flipping the vanity from an eastern wall to the west and adding Venetian plaster transformed Steph and Gian’s master ensuite redo room, bringing a sophistication that was missing and adding the perfect finishing touch to their master wing.
Shaynna was still chasing more storage, pointing out the lack of face-level cupboards and the shallow vanity drawers, but overall, the room finally had soul, they decided.
Into the kids “Jack and Jill” bathroom and the praise continued. “Very sophisticated!” Shaynna said, noting the added storage, but there were problems. Narrow shower doors could be tricky for kids, she said, the lighting was “gloomy” and functionality such as high towel hooks just didn’t work.
It’s beautiful, Neale said, but flawed.
Two bathrooms for Steph and Gian this week meant LOTS of work!

The styling was tweaked in this room and we think the difference is actually amazing! Giving this bathroom some "soul" as Shaynna said.
I said it above but honestly choosing a favourite of these Nood Co basins is harder than choosing my favourite child!
We are actually obsessed with this Jack and Jill bathroom that sits between the two kids bedrooms in Steoh and Gian's house.
The jute runner adds a warmth and leans into Steph's Japandi style perfectly, as a mum of three boys I can't see past the impracticality of that wall hanging though.
I just can't say it again, how do I choose??? I'll just be staring at the range here if you need me. I LOVE that the vanities in both upstairs bathrooms match, clever Steph, very clever!
Kyle and Leslie
Fourth place
23.5 points
With Darren clapping and Shaynna dancing, it seemed Kyle and Leslie had found a way to open up what had been a cramped living and dining area and bring it into line with the rest of their home.
“It just works!” Neale said as he took in the new curved wall that brought a flow from the front of the house, Porta moulding features reflecting the sheers and finally, the perfect place for the Christian Cole dining table.
In the upstairs kids bathroom the terrazzo tiles and Velux skylights wowed and the judges agreed it was a beautifully style space perfectly suited to its needs… if only the toilet wasn’t facing the bath. It’s the one tub in the house, Shaynna said, it deserved a better view.
There is no denying we have been huge fans of Kyle and Leslie, we love their style and this redo room may just be our favourite ever!
There are three key elements in this home.... that artwork, that table and those curves! The END!

That rug just went into my cart! OMG! perfection!
For Kyle and Leslie it was the toilet placement that bought them unstuck this week, again.
With the toilet next to the bath and facing the shower it was a big no-no for the judges. Shaynna said the only bath in the house "deserved a better view"
Once you look past the toilet debacle, Leslie's styling is again, near perfect, with stunning terrazzo tiles from Beaumont and that curved shaving cabinet, it's a beautiful bathroom.
Kristy and Brett
Fifth place

Clearly time had gotten the better of Kristy and Brett, the judges saw as they walked into an incomplete redo bathroom with missing fixtures, unfinished tiling and more.
“This isn’t a redo room,” Darren joked, “it’s an undo room!”. Was it just time? Or had budget hit hard as well, Shaynna wondered.
Clearly something had gone wrong. Upstairs in the kids bathroom, the same problems showed once again and although things were more under control, with a replication of the master ensuite clearly intended, the work was incomplete once more.
Darren admitted he loved the face-levels storage and vanity styling and Neale said with the colour palette, timber tiles and layout he could see this will be a great bathroom when it’s finished… but it simply wasn’t.
Tough week for Kristy and Brett with both bathrooms unfinished.
“This isn’t a redo room,” Darren joked, “it’s an undo room!”. Nothing to see here folks!
