Daniel and Jade Winning Block Kitchen

Family is so important to Daniel and Jade and their three children, Lincoln, 9, Hayden, 7 and Isla, 6.

So when they set out to create their dream kitchen on The Block, it is a family friendly kitchen what they wanted to achieve.

"We wanted to have some rich, warm, tones to the space to keep that family, homely, feel," Jade told The Block Shop.

Daniel and Jade certainly achieved that.

All three judges immediately fell in love with the huge Kinsman kitchen as soon as they walked into the space.

The hero of the room is the Christian Cole designed island bench, the hero being the beautifully curved timber.

"How beautiful is that," Shaynna said.

"And what a beautiful nod to the 1930s."

Daniel and Jade couldn't be happier how their kitchen island came up.

They used their game-changer option on The Block to make the stunning Christian Cole creation happen.

"We had a drawing and we said to Christian this is what we want, this is what we love," she said.

"Together with Christian, and Kinsman, we came up with this amazing island bench.

"It's pretty cool."

Neale thought the island bench, and the whole kitchen in fact, was perfect for a family.

He believes the kitchen is the heart and soul of a house, and Daniel and Jade delivered on that.

"When the kitchens go in, the home suddenly has a heartbeat," Neale said.

"This island bench genuinely feels like the heart of your home.

"It will have a sense of community about it too."

Daniel and Jade had two ovens one in the kitchen and in the Butler's Pantry.

Once again Shaynna praised Jade's styling.

On the night at HQ, the Daniel and Jade initially came in third place in what was hugely competitive, but they used their bonus point thanks to the gnome they won when they took out this week's challenge.

It proved to be a game-changer in the end.

The pair made the right choice to use the gnome, winning $10,000 from Ford in the process.

After a few weeks of nearly getting there, the pair from South Australia finally had a win on the board.

Harry and Tash's kitchen revealed
Score: 29/30 - Equal second place

Harry and Tash Block Kitchen

Tash explained that the kitchens were designed near the start of The Block, with consultations with Kinsman. At the beginning of the week, Harry and Tash thought kitchen week was going to be a walk in the park, but they faced a number of hurdles before delivering what is a beautiful kitchen.

When the kitchen arrived at Brighton, it wasn't as she thought when she decided on the design all those weeks ago.

"It started to get challenging towards the end of the week when we started to see our kitchen come together and things were right," she told The Block Shop.

"We were missing some things and ours went in last on The Block, so we were still getting it ready right up to the deadline."

Harry and Tash Block Kitchen

Tash had nothing to worry about, Darren, Shaynna and Neale loved everything about the kitchen

In particular, the island bench, which is about four metres long.

"It is an absolute show stopper," Neale said of the kitchen.

"If I had to describe the perfect 2020 kitchen this might be it.

"It has all the touchpoints.

"It just feels like this is the kind of kitchen people are looking for today."

He loved the length of the kitchen, saying in the era of social distancing, it is practically perfect.

Darren loved the black fingerless pull handles, the sleek elements of the benchtop from Caesarstone.

All three judges also made a point of how much they thought the coffee machine added to the value of the kitchen.

Tash laughed it was a bit of a tug of war between father and daughter to get the coffee machine, but in the end, Dad won.

"The coffee machine is Dad's baby," she said.

"He is obsessed with this thing.

"He really wanted it and did everything in his power to get me to give him the money for it, and he finally got what he wanted."

All three judges were also very impressed just how far Harry and Tash have come since the Brighton Beach Box challenge at the start of The Block where they came dead last.

"It feels like Harry and Tash have really come alive," Neale said.

While there were a few tears of frustration for Tash this week, in the end of the hard work paid off.

This is a kitchen perfect for Brighton.

Jimmy and Tam's kitchen revealed
Score: 29/30 - Equal second place

Jimmy and Tam Block Kitchen - 2020

The first week of The Block Jimmy and Tam were the lucky winners of $120,000 worth of Gaggenau appliances for their kitchen, and what a difference it makes.

"The Gaggenau products take the kitchen to a whole another level, they are beautiful," Jimmy said.

The appliances the Brisbane couple won include two dishwashers, two ovens, a wine fridge, a coffee machine and a freestanding freezer and fridge.

Added to this, the wine fridge has $5000 worth of wine for the buyer of the home, something that Neale noted.

With their incredible Kinsman kitchen and the Gaggenau appliances, the kitchen is valued at $200,000 plus.

Jimmy and Tam Block Kitchen - 2020

Darren, Shaynna and Neale noted the amazing bonus having the Gaggenau appliances is for Jimmy and Tam, especially when it comes to selling the house.

"How incredible," Darren said.

"A massive value add, that's for damn sure.

"Hidden away and on display."

For Tam, she wanted to continue the Palm Springs theme of the build in the kitchen and she did that with some of the detailing and product placement around the kitchen.

She founds some Terrazzo themed lights made by BENTU, which she immediately fell in love with.

There is also so much storage in the kitchen.

"There are cupboards everywhere in this kitchen and I think it's very important to have a lot of storage in a kitchen, you can never have too much," Tam said.

The judges loved the colour chose of the Ceaserstone on the kitchen island. Dark charcoal with mint green and brass, it shouldn't work, but it does.

The mint green colours are part of a strategy for Tam - she wants a house that stands out.

"You can tell from previous weeks we are not going to stick to the norm," she said.

"We wanted to go bold, but not bold in an offensive way but paired back and use colour when you need to.

"Also to use colour and not be afraid to use it."

The couple also had white timber VJ panelling on the roof, which provides a sense of elegance to the kitchen.

The only thing Shaynna didn't like was the bench stools, she thought they were way too tall for the bench.

Darren believed Jimmy and Tam had managed to deliver a truly original kitchen.

"This is not a Pinterest kitchen, and it didn't come from Instagram," he said.

"This is a really individually designed kitchen that has been conceived and delivered to suit this house, and it works with every other room."

Jimmy and Tam have set such a high standard week after week with their room reveals, and their unique kitchen is no different.

They are truly creating a statement house for the suburb of Brighton, a house that is rare in style, substance and beauty.

Luke and Jasmin's kitchen revealed
Score: 28/30 - Equal third place

Luke and Jasmin Block Kitchen - 2020

This week was a tough one on The Block for Luke and Jasmin, after Shaynna Blaze confronted the pair with a photo from online very similar to their upstairs bedroom that got a perfect score the week before.

A copying scandal hit The Block, with the couple told there is a fine line between inspirations from other work and copying.

However, despite the distractions, the couple delivered an incredible kitchen.

One of the highlights being the curved timber feature wall, which was constructed and created by Luke.

The same timber was used for the kitchen island.

"They are made from a product called Porta timber, which lots of people are using at the moment," Luke said.

"There is a certain way of doing it.

"It wasn't hard, but it was just time-consuming.

"We used up our whole Mitre 10 budget, but it was worth it."

The judges loved the Porta timber creations.

"We're really experiencing some exceptional kitchens today," Neale said.

"I feel like we're not just seeing kitchens that are on-trend, but kitchens that are setting trends."

Darren noticed that pared-back colour palette in the Kinsman kitchen was superb. Oak, white and brass.

Jasmin said the colour palette followed a similar theme throughout the whole house.

"Our whole house is white on white with black and timber, and the kitchen followed that same sort of colour palette," she said.

"The brass, the sleekness of it, we were just conscious of picking something that was seamless."

When they started on The Block all these weeks ago, this is the kitchen they imagined.

"It's come together beautifully," Jasmin said.

"I think this is the kitchen we dreamt off when we first came on The Block.

"To see it come to life, it's awesome."

While she was impressed with the amount of dining space on the kitchen island, Shaynna was disappointed to not find a PowerPoint somewhere on the island.

But this was a small criticism, as overall, Luke and Jasmin delivered a very strong kitchen.

With a score of 28 following on from a perfect score last week, the couple has really hit their stride since arriving back from the isolation break.

Sarah and George's kitchen revealed
Score: 28/30 - Equal third place

Sarah and George Block kitchen

There is no doubt about it since their return from isolation Sarah and George have a new spring in their step.

Out of all the couples, perhaps it was Sarah and George that needed the break the most.

"In the first five weeks we dealt with starting on The Block, a pandemic and the passing of Sarah's grandmother, we never got a chance to get out of the ditch," George said.

"Now we've had time to breathe personally, and sort things out and realise the world is not ending, it's been a lot easier to come back and stay focused."

Focused is exactly what the pair were during kitchen week on The Block.

Sarah and George Block kitchen

They produced an incredible kitchen, the hero being the Dolomite stone curved kitchen island bench.

Darren hugged the bench when he saw it and wondered how on earth it was produced.

"It's spectacular," he said.

"The detail is extraordinary."

Sarah and George wanted to create a kitchen that was full of space and somewhere the buyer can entertain.

"In our own home we spend our lives around the kitchen bench so we wanted to create something for the buyer so they can entertain, and I think we've done that," Sarah said.

A feature of the kitchen is the huge amount of storage space, and that was no coincidence for the couple.

"From our own personal experience, we lived in a house with not much storage so storage is a big thing for us," George said.

While the judges loved the kitchen, it wasn't faultless.

Darren, Neal and Shaynna thought the overhead cupboards were too high.

"The last thing anybody wants in their brochure is only tall people should apply," Neale said.

However, overall the judges loved the layout and described it as being very functional.

Neale loved the minimal pendant over the island from Beacon Lighting

In the Butler’s Pantry, they loved the unique Louvre glass storage cupboard, that Sarah and George selected.
