Redo Room: Kitchen
Score: 29.5 +1 /30 - Winners!!!

Matt and El’ise presented the mother of all terraces this week, maxing out on inclusions to wow the judges. And it worked! They won, thanks to all their perfectly-executed spaces...and that nifty little Bonus Point Gnome!
All three loved what they achieved on their terrace, especially the inclusion of that amazing in-built fireplace. They also loved the decking, lounge area and dining table, the enormous BBQ, fridge area and kitchen prep space, the custom-made seating and the beautifully potted olive and lemon trees.

“This is incredible,” Shaynna said, upon stepping foot in the space, so painstakingly designed and executed by Dave Franklin and the team.
Darren loved the layout and the way it differentiated zones with different use of decking and tiles. “You’ve got that lovely curve,” he said. “It makes that softer edge, like a rug would.”
All three thought the decision to include a fireplace was a stroke of genius, commenting that it made the area feel like a “destination.” “It has a real purpose,” Darren said.
Shaynna particularly loved the recliner chairs and the way everything felt so opulent, while Darren said he loved how everything felt so serene. “We are right in the centre of St Kilda, yet you can come up here and have a lovely quiet moment.”

Downstairs, the judges also thought they’d changed their kitchen area for the better, removing their oversized central range hood to create more bench prep space via the inclusion of the down-draft induction cooktop.

“It’s a great use of technology to solve a design flaw,” Darren said. “I feel like El’ise and Matt have rescued their house. Now I can totally see myself in this kitchen, preparing, entertaining, interacting with guests.”

Through to the garage, and the smiles continued, with all three judges appreciating the extra effort the couple went to include that feature graffiti wall.
“Nothing says inner urban Melbourne better than street art,” Neale said.

They also loved the fact the couple had a proper, working area in their garage, making it the most functional of all the garages presented.
“I love it,” Shaynna said. And we agree - well done, guys.

Deb and Andy terrace

Redo Room: First guest bedroom
Score: 29/30 - Second place

Andy and Deb created a simple, yet stylish outdoor terrace area that the judges all fell in love with. Furnishing it with a white picnic table, stylish timber and cream couches, a large BBQ, timber breakfast bench, large potted plants, and adorning the area with pretty festoon lights, it had everything the judges were looking for in an outdoor terrace space - and very nearly scored them another win.
“This is amazing,” Shaynna said, also admiring the couple’s use of an outdoor rug, wire coffee table, and the enormous outdoor fridge. Neale agreed: “Everyone in design these days is talking about things that spark joy,” he said. “THIS sparks joy.”
They all loved how “light, white and bright” the colour scheme was against the Dune colorbond, which the couple have used throughout all their outdoor spaces.

“You have got a lounge space and a proper eight to ten seat dining space as well as a bar space,” Darren commented. “This terrace has a connection straight to the city skyline. This is a dream deck as far as I am concerned.”
They were equally effusive downstairs, all commenting on how light and bright their guest bedroom felt. Shaynna particularly liked that the couple had kept their timber-framed bed, but added interest with brown tones in the cabinetry, occasional chair, mirror , pastel art, and the taupe-coloured bench seat. The bed was also dressed with pretty patterned cushions.

Deb and Andy Guest Bedroom

“To me, it feels like a more confident, grown up, polished version of it’s previous incarnation,” Neale said. “It’s the same room, and it has the same vibe, but it’s grown up. They have turned it into this deluxe resort-style room - and they have done it so beautifully.”
We agree - we love it! Well done, guys.

Tess and Luke Terrace

Redo Room: Dining Room
Score: 27/30 - Third place

Tess and Luke went all out this week, transforming their rooftop terrace and changing up their previous formal lounge into a deluxe dining room space. Starting out on the roof, the couple furnished the space sparingly, but with style, including a sophisticated white and grey outdoor dining suite (a three-seater and four-seater couch), wooden table with high bench seats, small coffee table and a series of potted citrus and palms in wide, circular pots. The judges all thought they’d done well - especially given their limited budget.

“I absolutely love it,” said Shaynna, who entered, along with the two others, via the couple’s spiral staircase. “I love the fact you’ve got the couch there, taking in the view. You’ve got your blankets - because you definitely need them up here - and somewhere to eat if you want.”
She also liked the fact the couple chose to use timber flooring over tiles, a decision that gave the space a lovely, lived-in “soft” look.
Neale liked it too, saying the couple had presented a very desirable, glamorous living space. “There is something very aspirational about this,” he said.

Downstairs, the smiles continued, with all three loving the couple’s decision to include a formal dining space - the only one of it’s kind on this year’s Block. A large table was dressed with deluxe tableware, with 10 plush chairs situated around it. A decorative wall unit, huge statement artwork and open fire finished the look.

Darren loved it. “Wow!” he said. “Now this is the dining table that is fit for a house this big.”
Neale agreed: “The beauty of these houses is that there’s room for [a formal dining area]....and if you’ve got room for one, why not?”
“This feels so grand. When you walk through the front door and you see this, you think, ‘Wow!’
We agree - well done guys! Now - when’s dinner?!

Jesse and Mel Terrace

Redo Room: Master Bedroom
Score: 24/30 - Fourth place

Jesse and Mel have always had a good sense of what buyers want in the Saint Kilda area. So it came as no surprise that they spared no expense making sure their terrace was packed full of quality inclusions, including an enormous BBQ and outdoor kitchen, built-in seating, a bar area, and even a dining space to sit and eat. Timber highlights and use of outdoor plants added to the atmosphere, all creating an area that potential buyers are going to want to spend time in.

“This is such a clever use of the space,” said Darren, commenting on how functional the outdoor seating area - complete with heater, speakers and coasters to make the chairs portable  - was. He also liked how well it connected to the city skyline.
“I really like how they have done this seating area and flowed it through into dining,” he added. “I think that is a really clever use of space - they have saved about a metre from what would be the back of a chair and the back of the couch.”
Neale agreed: “Jesse and Mel are nothing if not consistent,” he added. “It’s going to appeal to a very broad demographic who just want a really beautifully finished roof terrace.”
All three judges thought Jesse and Mel had created a “glamorous blank canvas,” choosing neutral colours and inoffensive design choices to maximise their appeal to the broadest possible cross section of buyers.

Downstairs they were underwhelmed by the couple’s decision not to change anything in their guest bedroom, and their sparsely finished garage. But all up, all three could see that the house would appeal to buyers come auction day.
Well done guys - another great room reveal.

Redo Room: Guest bedroom / Tiles in stairway
Score: 22/30 - Fifth place

Mitch and Mark created a “little oasis” on their upstairs terrace, furnishing their space with potted palms in massive pots, lots of greenery, grey outdoor furniture and pops of colour courtesy of strategically-placed brightly coloured cushions
Not content to just have their deluxe BBQ on Level One, they also chose to include a second double range BBQ on their roof, the icing on the cake of their “Entertainer’s Dream House.”
Shaynna was particularly impressed, especially with the luxury add ons. “It’s got a sink and a fridge - it’s pretty cool,” she said. Neal agreed: “The party house continues to another level,” he added.

Darren loved their choice of plants, saying the inclusion of Strelitzia, Palms and Aloe was a master stroke. “It’s really beautiful planting - I love all the pots,” he said. “I think they have laid it all out really nicely.”
The Mid-century look was carried through to the terrace space courtesy of a large square coffee table, and 50s-style lounging chairs. A huge market umbrella completed the look.

Mitch and Mark redo room

Downstairs, Mitch and Mark simplified their “re-do” Guest Bedroom, removing beading from the walls, changing artwork and paring back their styling. Darren was a fan: “I am very, very happy not to see the beading on the wall,” he said, though the other two judges thought it had “lost its sense of fun.”

But their mood changed when they saw the couple’s garage, complete with that Grafico feature wallpaper - and that adorable Volkswagen Kombi!
Well done guys - we love it.
