Supplier Spotlight: Jade and May

When mother-of-three Carlie O'Loughlin designed a dressing gown on a whim, she knew it was something special.

Her brand, Jade and May, is the Geelong-designed sleepwear range so beautiful it has a cult following and is growing in popularity year on year since its launch in 2019.

Meet Carlie, the mum of three who has gone from getting tailored clothes in her travels to running a successful business designing loungewear for her label Jade and May.

A seasoned traveller, it was a trip to Vietnam that sparked the idea to create a clothing line. Carlie was having some items made for herself at a tailor, when she realised she loved the process of designing her own garments. She knew there would be a market for people just like her, those who love to lounge and feel good doing it.

Over the past three and a half years Carlie has taken the brand from a single dressing gown to a full ready-to-wear range, and a beautiful store in the coveted Rutland Street pocket in Newtown which also includes a carefully curated selection of small-batch homewares, gifts and accessories.

It is Sleepwear so beautiful customers have worn them to brunches and work and even weddings. “We keep the design really simple, so our pieces are easy to wear, regardless of where you wear them,” Carlie explains. 

What started as one tailored dressing gown for Carlie, now comes in a range of fabrics, colours and styles, with a focus on quality hand crafted garments. And all of which are available here at The Block Shop.

Carlie’s focus is high quality hand crafted and hand-dyed garments made of natural fibres, at a Balinese factory where the staff have good working conditions and a fair wage. The current Jade and May range includes 100 percent European flax linen, bamboo satin and cotton. “There are more designs and ranges in the works, keeping our focus on using 100 percent natural fibres with a few new styles launching next year using recycled fibres and a sustainably printed collection with a local artist,” Carlie says.

“Every part of the process has been considered–the factory, the fabric, the labels, packaging and wrapping. It’s all chosen to keep our footprint as light as possible.” 

Carlie oversees all of the Jade and May business, this busy mum of three is passionate about keeping their footprint as light as possible, we are in love with the packaging, here at The Block Shop we use these as kids Library bags and it has been a hit!

From two-piece sets that take you from bed to bar, to dressing gowns perfect for lounging or even on your big wedding day, there is plenty for everyone.

The range is size inclusive, starting from size 8 to 20. But there is even more to come. 

We just wish you could jump through the screen and feel the incredible quality of this sleepwear range, it is so silky soft! The perfect sets for the bride to be and her bridesmaids!

With loungewear, more home accessories, baby and kids products and bags on the way, this small idea has grown into a big success for the Belmont entrepreneur.“I love the products we have now–the PJ range, our dressing gowns,homewares, kitchen accessories, baby goods and accessories but there’s loads of new on the horizon and we are excited by all of it,” Carlie says.

Jade and May have also featured in The Block Treechange in 2022, when Sarah-Jane and Tom used their linen napkins and leather napkin rings in their dining room.
