Room Reveal: Second Guest Bedrooms

Bianca and Carla Second Guest Bedroom Bianca and Carla: The score 28.5/30

It was another flawlessly executed room for Bianca and Carla, who won the judges over once more with their stunning guest bedroom - and this time took out a win! Although Carla went into judging thinking they hadn’t done enough, all three judges loved the elegant simplicity of their room, which featured white cabinetry with a brass trim and timber lining, a custom-designed study nook with built-in cabinetry, a leather bedhead, simple black and white artwork, and those signature black drapes. As well as these, the girls also chose to replicate their custom cabinetry, choosing more of those stunning timber bedsides, complete with circular timber detail.
Darren, in particular, was a fan of how it all came together.
“This is balanced, this is beautiful, it’s nuanced.” he said. “I think that Carla and Bianca are getting so good at showing us luxury delivered through texture and tone.”
Shaynna agreed, saying she felt the girls had delivered a very beautiful room.
Neale especially liked the functionality of the space, which he compared to a luxury hotel room.
“Guest bedrooms need to be a little like hotel rooms, because we all live through our laptops,” he said, admiring their study nook. “This is very practical, very well styled and perfectly executed.”
And we agree. Well done girls - we want to come stay immediately!

Jess and Norm second Guest Bedroom Jess and Norm: The score 27.5/30

Jess and Norm presented a wonderfully understated guest bedroom, winning over the judges with the way they styled their space. They chose to include more of that custom cabinetry with the shaker door profile, a creme bedhead, large statement art above the bed, more of that white diaphanous curtain, and a stunning white occasional chair. They also included quirky details like that large mirror, a plant stand, and a simple, yet elegant side tables to complete the look - and all on a shoestring.
“I think I spent about $8 on that room - and that was on the flowers,” said Jess, admitting she used sponsor vouchers to furnish the entire room.
It mattered not to the judges who loved everything about the pared back “Scandi Luxe” guest bedroom.
“I love the colour palette in here, the height of the ceiling, the sophistication of the styling - it just feels so welcoming,” Neale said.
Shaynna agreed, and said she thought the look should be one they replicate again elsewhere in their apartment. “I want them to do this to the master bedroom. This has to be repeated,” she said.
Darren was also a fan, especially of their built-in robes, which replicated a look seen elsewhere.
“I love that profile,” he said. “It works with that more sophisticated, ‘Scandi’ feel. This is a textbook example of how you can take many shades of grey, and still make [a room] feel welcoming.”
We agree - we’d love to make ourselves at home in that gorgeous space. Well done, guys!

Hayden and Sara Second Guest Bedroom Hayden and Sara: The score 26/30

Hayden and Sara only had a small space to work with, but Neale Whitaker thought they had made the best of it, admitting he was a big fan of their “glamorous” guest bedroom, which included one wall of black wardrobes with brass handles, a dark blue upholstered bedhead, two large bedside lights, a simple geometric artwork in shades of blush pink, and that gorgeous signature coffered roof detail.
“Wow, I love that ceiling,” Darren said upon walking into the room
All three liked the way the bed was styled, with Shaynna saying she liked the plush velvet cushion details. Although not such a fan of their Game of Thrones-inspired Jon Snow throw, she did say she thought they had done well with their styling this week.
She did, however, point out that perhaps the couple find themselves trapped between two demographics for their apartment. While they are trying to appeal to a 30s/40s professional buyers, she thinks they may actually end up appealing to an older, more mature downsizer.
For his part, Hayden is A-OK with this, saying it’s the perfect room “for Mum and Dad to come to stay.”
Neale didn’t agree, saying he thought they had got the look and feel of the room just right.
“This week I am good cop, because I quite like this room,” he said. “It’s welcoming and it’s  glamorous. It has the right feel for the apartment.”
And we agree - well done, Hayden and Sara!

Courtney and Hans Second Guest Bedroom Courtney and Hans: The score 25/30

Courtney and Hans continued with their gorgeous eclectic/kooky aesthetic, producing a sweet guest bedroom, which Neale said he thought was one of the best rooms they had presented thus far. In it, they placed more of their concrete-look cabinetry, this time with a white timber finish inside, a cluster of quirky art in hues of pink, purple and grey, dressed their bed in a similar palette, and offset it all with a lovely Dark blue velvet bedhead.
Darren particularly liked the way the colours worked well together, and went perfectly with those stunning bone inlay side tables - the same used in their re-do master bedroom.
“That navy blue is quite sedate, but then it gets picked up by this punchy lavender,” Darren said.
He also liked the choice of artwork, noting it’s “kind of whimsical and a little bit crazy - but I really like them,” although Neale thought it made the space feel a tad “claustrophobic.”
Neale liked the way everything worked together. And while he noted that the space could have been put together slightly better to maximise space, “There is a real sense of humour here, and I also love their choice of bedside tables.”
Well done guys - we’d love a staycation at your place. Invite, please!

Kerrie and Spence Second Guest Bedroom. Kerrie and Spence: The score 26/30

Kerrie and Spence had an extra space to present this week, not just doing a guest bedroom, but also a dedicated study as well. “Having three bedrooms and a study - it’s definitely going to interest more people,” said Kerrie, of their decision to go all-out this week with their extra space.
And they could be right. The judges thought it was a stroke of genius to include the additional room, and were impressed by the way Spence custom-built all that gorgeous joinery to his consistent, exacting standard.
Back in their guest bedroom, they all liked the simple, elegant space they created, which featured three cute native animal artworks above the bed, a gorgeous grey fabric bedhead dressed against lavender cushions, and more of that beautifully appointed dark cabinetry.
It was this last bit that attracted “The Storage Queen”, Shaynna Blaze, the most.
“It’s got a full length mirror!” she exclaimed, upon opening the ample wardrobes.
Neale was also a fan, saying he thought they had styled the space really well. He also liked the way the bed was orientated, “And even though it’s another small room, it doesn’t feel small. The orientation of the bed feels more appropriate.”
Darren agreed, saying that while some elements were an “unusual” choice for the room, overall it worked well. And of course - he adored their gorgeous bedhead. “It’s thick, substantial - and it looks glorious,” he exclaimed.
All three also liked the study, and believed it might just provide the couple with that extra edge come auction day.
We love it guys - well done.
