Palm Springs Luxe

We take a look at one of this season’s hottest design trends

It’s playing a big part in the design of Mitch and Mark’s home. But what exactly is Palms Springs Luxe? And why is it likely to appeal to that elusive high-end St Kilda Buyer?

“This is Palm Springs, the epitome of glamour as far as Mitch and Mark are concerned," said Neale Whitaker.

In short - it’s all about reflecting a certain kind of lifestyle.
Back in the 1930s, Hollywood’s elite flocked to Palm Springs, building gorgeous mid-century homes as holiday residences. Over the years the area - now largely heritage listed, and home to a yearly design festival - has retained its charm, and is known for its modernist white homes, clean-line design, and the vivid pops of colour that punctuate the spaces.
Our very own Shelley Craft is a big fan of the design trend, admitting she used it as influence for her own mid-century-style home in Byron Bay. In a recent chat with Inside Out Magazine, she referenced the 1950s photographer Slim Aarons, whose photographs of high society holidaying in the desert hotspot are now iconic, as a major source of inspo.

As for Mitch and Mark, they showcased the style in the top floor of their home, sourcing heritage bamboo print wallpaper to reflect the aesthetic in their upstairs living space.
