Hit the deck!

Pressed for time and after an outdoor living area that is low maintenance, and keeps looking great year after year? Take a look at Outdure!

So just what is Outdure?
Outdure’s range of durable products make it easy to create the perfect deck or tile space to suit your lifestyle. Surface ranges include high performance, recycled composite decking to porcelain exterior tiles and turf ranges. All surfaces can be used independently or, for a moisture-proof solution that stays straight and level, installed on Outdure’s patented QwickBuild structural aluminium framing and support system.

Ideal for just about any outdoor setting, QwickBuild is great for both new and renovation projects including courtyards, pool decks, balconies, patios + alfresco areas and rooftop decks as seen on the last season of The Block.

How does it work?
The QwickBuild system works by laying down the lightweight aluminium framing structure made up of joists-bearer profiles and connections on supports, then the chosen surface material is easily laid on top and fastened in place through a variety of clever but simple methods depending on the material, for example composite decking is fastened using the hidden QwickClips, tiles are anchored (no grout required) and hardwood is top fixed (using the flat edge of the aluminium joist).

QwickBuild profiles can be used as joists or bearers (joists support the surfaces, bearers support the joists, posts/pedestals support the bearers). Profiles are determined by the ‘finished deck level’ (measurement from the top of the substrate to the top of the board/tile). Generally, the larger the profile the longer the span and therefore fewer supports are required – beneficial for decks over the ground to minimise digging holes for posts. For low height decks, such as balconies where space is often limited, a smaller profile is required. QwickBuild also makes a level finish between the deck and internal floor easy, eliminating a ‘step-down’.

Is it complex?
Not at all! Outdure make it easy, they review your project requirements and provide board and/or tile layouts with optimum frame options to suit the deck height and whether it's installed over ground, concrete, or waterproofing. The team at Outdure then provide quantification, pricing, installation drawings and instructions customised to your project.

Once your materials arrive on-site, the installation process is straightforward and only requires basic trade tools such as a saw and a drill, making it very DIY friendly.

The hardest part is choosing from their range of decking and tiles which colour you want…

Jimmy and Tam Outdure Deck - The Block

What are those options?
All our decking boards are made from recycled composite. CasaDeck is our original board range with a matte finish and excellent non-slip rating, the beautiful ResortDeck looks like a freshly oiled timber hardwood, and like TimberTech is fully capped for moisture-resistance. TimberTech PRO Reserve range with its low gloss wood grain finish and solid profile has an industry-leading 30-year warranty.

"I love the timber they have used" Shayna Blaze Designer & Judge when she saw ResortDeck.

Outdure’s structural exterior tiles are porcelain vitrified, the Mineral series is perfect for a modern, minimal design, and the StoneInspire range has a classic marble finish.

For their winning alfresco courtyard, Mitch and Mike chose Outdure Mineral Oasis Tiles on QwickBuild and said: For us, the aesthetics of the tile is what made it our winning courtyard.”

For the ultimate low maintenance outdoor space you can also install synthetic turf onto QwickBuild using the aluminium turf baseboards.

Outdure even stock a FIFA approved artificial turf range, durable and soft underfoot called UltraPlush which Deb and Andy used last year, saying: “The ability to create the indoor level with the outdoor using turf  brought everything together for us.”

Can different materials be used together?
Yes, that’s one of the benefits. As Anthony Gronow of Build Gronow says: “The big advantage is the ability to use different surfaces and to chop and change between the two.“

You can easily transition from a tiled terrace area to a timber or composite deck on the same aluminium frame, you can even use the system’s versatility to create on-trend curves or angles to separate spaces visibly while still connecting them physically.

El’ise and Matt did that at The Oslo in 2019 with a curved tile section running to ResortDeck for their winning rooftop space.  For this season, the contestants really showcase the different ways Outdure products can be used with QwickBuild being used as the sub-frame support structure throughout. The system also made it easy to achieve a flush-finish between not just the different surface materials but the interior flooring - adding real value to the homes. This season a great example of this is Daniel and Jades side deck which mixes tiles and ResortDeck to define the seating zone. Last year Deb and Andy even used Turf on QwickBuild with the aluminium turf baseboards as support.

What’s the advantage of using this system?

Aside from the simplicity and speed of install, there are multiple advantages of QwickBuild.

Firstly you can always access utilities underneath – you simply lift a tile or decking board if you need to, then return it when you’re done.

And it can adapt to any situation. There was an instance in back courtyard week when Dan the Foreman inspected Harry and Tash’s deck. Thinking the deck was built using traditional methods Dan thought there was a major problem with the deck being too close to their protected tree and it would have to be rebuilt. It turned out not to be a problem at all as the lightweight aluminium bearers could easily be moved.

The family of profiles are manufactured from Global Green Tag structural aluminium and are configurable for all deck heights from ultra-low to raised deck, it can be installed over most substrates and supports multiple surface finishes. The system allows for design details such as cantilevers, curves, stairs, seats, screens, planter boxes and more.

So QwickBuild can be installed over the bare earth?
Yes, Outdure’s QwickBuild is the only system with low height capabilities that provides a level and stable, moisture-proof solution for supporting composite and hardwood timber decking, exterior structural tiles, synthetic turf, or a combination. The value-engineered joist-bearer profiles are designed to be configured to accommodate all deck heights. The versatile system can be used as a structure over waterproof membranes, concrete pads, existing pavers and natural ground.
