They’ve bought and sold 10 properties while raising their young family. Make no mistake, this multi-tasking mum and dad are here to win.
These dynamic go-getters have spent the last 12 years together riding the up-and-down Perth property market, “flipping” houses for profit. Now they’re ready to take their renovating skills to The Block. But do they have what it takes to make it in the big league?
RONNIE 41 PLASTERER & HANDYMAN
A fan of the show since series one, professional plasterer Ronnie admits he’s always dreamed of competing on The Block but the time was never right. “There was always a renovation to complete or something we were working on,” he admits. This sports-mad beach volleyball enthusiast has been renovating period homes since he was in his early twenties. Passionate about buying and selling property, especially in Perth’s trendy inner- northern suburbs, he briefly worked as a real estate agent. But the lure of working on his own place was too great and he recently completed his tenth renovation. Jack of all trades and master of most, Ronnie will give anything a go – and it mostly works out. Inspired by his wife›s drive, Ronnie takes great pride in his work ethic and setting a good example for his kids.
GEORGIA 33 KID’S CLOTHING DESIGNER/RETAILER
Georgia is a driven perfectionist who always has an answer, and somehow this charismatic mother-of-three manages to keep you on-side as she gets her way. Georgia is fun-loving, loud and passionate. She sees her obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) tendencies as a strength and there is nothing this overachiever fears except failure, which can be her crippling downfall. Fiercely protective of her family, she’s in this for the win so she can make sure her kids have the best possible start in life. Driven and ambitious, Georgia gives everything her all, and whether that’s starting her own childrenswear business or competing on The Block, the self-confessed “woman with no filter” will land on site with all guns blazing.
Georgia was 21 when she met her husband, Ronnie. Eight years her senior, he already had an established profession and was a single dad to Giordano, then just a toddler. “At the time, me and my friends just saw him as ‘The Free Drinks Guy’, but Ronnie is persistent,” Georgia laughs. “But it took a while. I was 21 and Ronnie had a kid, and I thought ‘no deal’.” Fast-forward a few months though and his persistence paid off. And, despite her initial reservations, Georgia loved her new role as stepmum. It hasn’t always been easy for this tenacious couple, but they’ve kept their eye on the prize, which has always been carving out a better life for them and their kids. Together now for 12 years and married for six, the couple have since added to their brood with Leo, 41⁄2, and Charlotte, 21⁄2. Everything they do is for their family. “This is why we’re doing The Block,” Georgia adds. “We want to give our kids the best start. We especially want them to go to good schools, and that’s expensive.”
Having renovated 10 properties together, this is undoubtedly the couple to beat. These experienced renovators think they know everything when it comes to building, but sparks will fly when things don’t go their way. Or should we say, when they don’t go Georgia’s way. “She’s the competitive one,” Ronnie insists. And watch out, they love to bicker. “We argue,” Ronnie says.
“Actually, every decision is through an argument. I think we have to, though. Because, if I just did everything Georgia wanted me to do, that wouldn’t be any fun.”
