You thought YOU wanted to be a Blockhead? Ha!

You know what they say - if at first, you don’t get in, try, try again! And boy did this year’s WA contestants Matt and El’ise take that to heart. When they narrowly missed out on a spot on the show last year, they went all-out to make sure they had the best chance possible of being picked in 2019.
“Applying for The Block has been something that has been on my bucket list forever,” says El’ise. “And when Matt and I got together, I realised that it was actually possible!  “When I have my sights set on something, I set it in my vision and persist to try and get there.” Needless to say, they were devastated when they got right down to the final audition rounds, only to lose out on a spot at the Gatwick due to Courtney and Hans.  “We went through an emotional time with it all, and we questioned ourselves: was it something we did or didn't do?” Matt says. “We weren’t sure, so we thought, ‘Let's go ahead and jump in again.’”

In the year between Blocks, the couple went to extraordinary lengths to make sure they were ‘match fit’ should they get the call up again.
“[Not getting in] ended up being the biggest blessing in disguise,” says Elise, who put in their application for this year. “We had a whole year to prepare and get ready for the OSLO! This made us extremely focused and determined to have a go again.”
Last year Elise applied to do a decor and design course and set about improving her knowledge of the building industry. “I also made sure that I was physically fit, so I woke up at 5am each morning to go to the gym...to get my body ready for as much physical labour possible.”
Matt also went above and beyond, taking on harder and more intricate jobs as a chippie.
“He also put healthy eating and training into action straight away,” Elise says. “So when we got the yes this time round we were shocked, thrilled, ecstatic and READY, all at the same time.”
