The best kid’s bedroom trends for 2024
- 21 Aug 2024
Creating the ultimate children’s bedroom is easier than you might think. Here’s how you can transform your kid’s room into a place of fun and function. Here’s a hint: it’s all about COLOUR!
Bright bed linen
One of the best ways to inject personality into your child’s room is through the use of colourful linen. Buy a few sets and mix and match your flat and fitted sheets – the clashing prints will provide a great focal point.

Max out your doona
It was Georgia Caceres who first introduced us to the joys of upsizing our doonas. If you’ve got a single bed, upsize to a double. If you’ve got a double, add a queen cover – you get the drift. Not only do they provide extra snuggliness for your kid, they also look nice and neat when tucked in and prettied up.

A big comfy chair
If you’ve got a newby, chances are you’ve already got a big comfy chair in your kid’s bedroom – they’re essential for night feeds. If your kids are a bit older they’re still worth adding as they’re a great place to perch and do your nighttime reading routine.
As a mum of three believe me when I say... you need a rocking chair in your nursery, enjoy those snuggles in comfort with the Black Mango Rocking chair, available in so many different colours. Shop rocking chairs here.
Display their books
This is a great way of injecting a bit of colour to your walls. Displaying your favourite picture books not only looks great, it also becomes a focal point, and is a fabulous way to get your little ones enthused about reading. It’s always good to remind them that books are things to be treasured.

Murals and decals
Adding a temporary sticker or decal is a great way to add a bit of interest to your kid’s room – they work particularly well if you’re renting and are unable to decorate your nursery in colours of your choosing. Change them when your child ages out of those nursery motifs and wants something a little more ‘grown up’.
Fun features
Adding interesting knobs and handles to plain, white furniture is a fabulous way to inject a bit of personality into your children’s bedroom. It’s also a reasonably cheap way to customise that plain, flat-pack furniture many of us have in our children’s bedrooms.

Rug
Rugs are another great way to add colour and fun. They’re also functional, providing a comfy soft landing for new walker – and a snuggly spot for little ones to play. The funner, the better!

Tents and canopies
These were big a few years back, and continue to be a great feature for children’s bedrooms. Not only are they pretty over cots and beds, they’re also great for creating a special place for your child to tuck themselves away for ‘quiet time’.
