It’s now a two horse race

It’s ‘Penthouse vs Penthouse’ and ‘Gatwick vs Gatwick’ as we race towards Auction

Buyer’s advocate Greville Pabst says he now believes The Block has now been split into two. “[He] thinks there is two very different competitions going on in The Block this year - Penthouse vs Penthouse and old Gatwick vs old Gatwick,” Scotty says. “This is the first time this has happened, where we have almost got two Blocks going on.”

How will the old Gatwick crew line up against the Penthouses? How will the old Gatwick crew line up against the Penthouses?
Norm and Jess with Scotty Cam “This is the first time this has happened, where we have almost got two Blocks going on,” says Scotty Cam.

For her part, Sara agrees.
“Funnily enough, we actually said that from the beginning,” says the feisty New South Wales contestant. “We copped a lot of social media backlash from that, with people saying, ‘How can you be so stupid, there are not two different competitions?’”
But she may have a point. Now that the apartments are starting to take shape, there’s a very clear divide between those two penthouses up top, and the remaining three apartments within The Gatwick.
“The way you think about it, you have two brand new builds that will appeal to penthouse buyers,” Sara explains. “But then you have three builds that really incorporate the old building, and the architecture of the old building. They are a bit cozier, even though there is more space in here - and they are really different.
“It’s definitely a very different competition.”

So how do Bianca and Carla feel about the fact they could, essentially, be competing with just Norm and Jess, for the very specific Penthouse buyers at auction?
Bianca thinks that while they are two similar spaces, what each team have each done within their penthouses is entirely different.
“We have designed them in a very different ways, and I think we’ll appeal to very different people,” she says. “For example, I think Frank and Greville liked ours better, and Nicole liked theirs better. So who knows?”
As for Norm, he says he agrees with Greville - he does feel like there are two very distinct competitions going on this year. And it’s anyone’s game.
“The apartments downstairs, they are three apartments that are going to be fighting amongst themselves,” he concurs. “And I think it is going to be us and the girls fighting a totally different battle.
“If you are looking for an apartment in St Kilda you might go for one downstairs. But if you are looking for a penthouse, well, you have only got two to choose from.”
He could be right. And only time will tell...
