Nothing sets the scene quite like the glow of candlelight

Get the most out of your newly purchased candle by avoiding these three most common candle issues.

The 3 most common candle problems

1. TUNNELLING

When a candle burns hollow or leaves a thick, unused mantle or rim, this is referred to as 'tunnelling'. Make sure the initial burn is long enough to melt the candle to the edge. The size of the wax pool during the first burn DETERMINES THE LIFE OF THE CANDLE.

- The first burn time should be at least 3 hours! Grab a book and start the bath...

2. SMOKE

A properly burning candle might smoke a little every now and then, but it should never continuously smoke!

- A flickering flame might look pretty...however be aware of draughts. Sheild the flame or move the candle away from the draught.

- Keep your wick trimmed to 6mm and remove any wick debris from the candle.

3. DRIPPING

A dripping candle can have several causes.

-Ensure your candle is on a nice flat surface

-Once again draughts need to be avoided as a slight breeze can cause the wax to drip down the side of the candle.

- We love the look of grouped candles however to avoid melting and warping you need to ensure you keep at least 10cm between your candles.
