In light of the current COVID-19 Coronavirus situation, we all understandably have a heightened awareness of germs and the potential of virus transmission. According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) transmission from surfaces to person has not been documented however current evidence suggests the Coronavirus may stay viable for hours to days on surfaces so we all want to do our best to keep our homes safe and clean.



It is important to define the differences between cleaning and disinfecting. Whilst cleaning removes your household dirt and germs from surfaces it doesn’t kill them. Disinfecting refers to using a chemical to actually kill the germ on the surface.

Top 4 home cleaning tips:

1. Clean dirty household surfaces with detergent, water and soap wiping away your grime and dirt reducing your risk of spreading infection.

2. Once you have cleaned the surfaces follow this with a disinfection solution such as a diluted beach solution or an alcohol solution with at least 70% alcohol to kill the germs.

3. For soft surfaces such as your rugs and carpets ensure you remove any visible contamination first then follow up with a cleaner indicated for these surfaces

4. Clean high-touch surfaces every day with a household cleaning solution or spray as per labels instructions. Including but not limited to your kitchen benchtop, handles and knobs, bathroom fittings, light switches and don’t forget your office space including your germ collecting keyboard and phone.
