The Block 2021: Front Garden and Facade Recap
Mitch & Mark
Score: 29 ½ /30
First PlaceCongratulations to Mitch and Mark for winning front garden and facade week.
A “perfect” white picket fence, paved pathways that look like they’ve been there for years, a tree-surround seat for watching the world go by and grass – complete with cubby house and trampoline for children to enjoy - Mitch & Mark’s front yard was just what the judges wanted to see. “Storytelling at its best!” Neale summed up, and the story was a home fit for any family. After worries the very grown-up backyard pool surround might polarise buyers, all three judges agreed this child-friendly area more than evens the balance.

Second Place
Neale Whitaker said this is “the best property that has been delivered on The Block!”
With a swing hanging from the huge front yard tree, a giant arbour offering a quiet space to sit and a driveway big enough for a fleet of cars, the emphasis here was on space! “Honey, I’m home! said Neale as he walked through the gate and took in the large expanse of grass, separated garden beds and plants that will mature to give privacy whilst still maintaining street appeal. “This is,” Neale added, “the best property that has been delivered on The Block!”

Ronnie & Georgia
Score: 27/30
Third PlaceRonnie and Georgia's completed modern masterpiece.
A “modern masterpiece” consistent from front to back, said Darren Palmer when he walked up Ronnie & Georgia’s driveway to see the standing-seam Colorbond clad façade with matching garage door. And the garden? Visually stunning, Shaynna felt, from the very practical beehive bringing life to the artfully-placed plantings and pathways. From the statement brick wall past sculpted flower beds to the window-shielding hedge and beyond, this, the judges agreed, was a front yard to catch the eye.

Fourth PlaceThe judges called it “Simple, structural elegance!”
“Simple, structural elegance!” said the judges as they walked up Josh and Luke’s driveway and the praise didn’t stop there. From the mature olive tree standing against the grey rendered wall to the inviting front doorway and offset front yard, with a secluded workout space to one side, this was the ideal way to represent the best of what the twins had delivered inside, Darren said. The front wall, however, was a jarring rustic note in an otherwise minimalist modern space, but overall the façade, with its soaring skyline and modern outlook, left them smiling.

Tanya & Vito
Score: 24/30
Last PlaceTanya and Vito created a “dream come true” for the right buyer.
With a letterbox mirroring the home’s distinctive roof and crazy paving to the front door, a hanging chair to take in the street and a colour scheme paying homage to the original home, this was a yard that impressed. But was it enough? No barrier to the street worried Shaynna, minimal lighting caught Darren’s attention and small plants near the door left Neale wanting more, but all agreed the unique style from the home had been carried through to the curb to create a “dream come true” for the right buyer.
