- 18 Oct 2023
Meet Debra Waller-Pompe, Freedom's Interior Decorator who assisted The Block Contestants in 2023.
Debra has assisted The Block contestants again in 2023, Freedom have a team of Interior Decorator's ready to assist their customers.
When it comes to interior design and home makeovers, few television shows have captured the imagination of viewers quite like The Block. This Australian reality TV series has been a household favourite for years, showcasing the talents of budding renovators and designers as they transform rundown properties into stunning dream homes.
Two elements in the show's success have been furniture and homewares retailer, Freedom and their Interior Decorator Debra Waller-Pompe, both of whom play pivotal roles in creating beautiful living spaces.
We are excited to delve into the impact that professional style advice can have when coupled with beautiful designs, and to explore how Freedom and Debra have contributed to the show's enduring charm.
Freedom is a brand synonymous with style, quality, and affordability in the world of interior furnishings. Over the years, it has made it’s name providing an extensive range of contemporary Australian furniture and home décor.
When Freedom partnered with The Block, it was a match made in interior design heaven.
"Coming on The Block with no renovation or interior design experience was tough and Debra swooped in at just the right time, helping me immensely with my styling. She reinforced our vision but gave some small but incredibly helpful advice to hone our skills and mature our vibe. Deb was a saviour! " said Liberty in House 5 of The Block 2023.
Eliza and Liberty raised the bar on this space by taking Deb's advice to take the microwave off display and move the TV to the wall, with pops of colour toned down with neutral furnitire pieces we think the girls did a beautiful job of this redo. Featuring Freedom sofa, Tv console, coffee and side table aswell as the boujee boucle office chairs, this is a room full to the brim with Freedom furniture.
House 5 used the Claremont Entertainment Unit, which we LOVE! Alongside the Royal Coffee Table and Royal Side Table, both tables feature Banswara marble tabletop and the timber legs showcase the wood's natural grain.
Freedom has played a significant role in elevating the aesthetics of The Block by offering contestants beautiful furniture, accessories, and decor items to choose from throughout the seasons. Whether it's a minimalist Japandi-inspired living room or a luxurious and modern bedroom, The Freedom range has something for every design concept.
Beyond just supplying furniture, Freedom has also provided valuable design insights to contestants. Over numerous seasons, their team of experts, including store manager Anne from Moorabin and Interior Decorators have helped the contestants select the right pieces to create cohesive and visually appealing interiors, ensuring that the design visions of the contestants are brought to life.
Steph and Gian used the Lune Fabric Daybed from Freedom, available in seven colourways and with a right or left hand chaise, they also took out the win in this week with a stunning Japandi inspired master suite.
In Season 19 of The Block, Freedom’s Interior Decorator Debra met with multiple contestants from the show to help them hone their style. Debra greatly boosted the confidence of the contestants by providing invaluable advice and guidance on how to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional.
We have seen Debra conduct one-on-one consultations with contestants, most recently helping Kyle and Leslie try to re-do their living space which was criticised by the judges for being too small and not open plan.
Debra meets with the contestants to understand their design goals, preferences, and challenges. This personalised approach ensures that each team's design reflects their unique personality and style.
Debra helped Kyle and Leslie in House 1 to open up what was a small living dining space into this curevd beauty!
Unless you've been under a rock in 2023 you will know that bouclé furniture, especially sofas, is very ON trend! Pictured is the Hawkesbury Fabric Sofa, which is also proudly Australian Made by Freedom.
Kyle and Leslie also used the Hallie Dining Chairs, we just love Leslie's style she had all the right ideas, so Debra was a great way to bounce off her ideas amid The Block Chaos.
Interior design is not just about aesthetics; it's also about functionality and practicality. As an interior decorator, Debra helps contestants address design dilemmas and come up with creative solutions to make their spaces both stunning and liveable.
The Block has been a beloved television show because of its ability to showcase not only the renovation and design skills of its contestants but also the contributions of partners like Freedom and their expert team of Interior Decorators. Freedom’s vast product range and design expertise, combined with Debra's keen eye for design and problem-solving skills, have made for a winning combination.
