- 26 Feb 2023
“I believe our time here is meant to be enjoyed and it’s up to us to surround ourselves with what makes us happy.
I was born to be an artist, this is my passion and I want to share it with as many people as possible.”

Fashionably Creative: Artist ‘elaurante’ - Dr Louise Owen
With love for everything; “gorgeous!” and “beautiful!” two adjectives that she uses liberally while explaining her outlook of life. Louise explains, “I believe our time here is meant to be enjoyed and it’s up to us to surround ourselves with what makes us happy. I was born to be an artist/designer, this is my passion and I want to share it with as many people as possible.”
Louise was born in outback Australia, one of four children of landowners who moved to Brisbane when she was young. She was an elite swimmer, tennis player and student who studied at various universities, earning five degrees including a Ph.d. in sports medicine but ultimately decided to pursue work in the medical industry.
Louise is a world traveler and she reflects her experiences abroad in her pieces, each of which take four to five months to create and 150 hours to complete. She considers herself a creative, imaginator, fashionista, colorist, texturist and most importantly, a mother of two and wife to her best friend.
It was after loss that Louise started using her artistic moniker “elaurante” – it is her maiden name and a tribute to her sister and Mum who have both passed.
Louise’s artistic love of celebrating the female form comes from a place of joy and deep sadness. Nineteen years ago, on the day of her son’s third birthday, Louise’s younger sister passed away suddenly. It was after this loss that she started using her artistic moniker “elaurante” – it is her maiden name and a tribute to her sister and Mum who have both passed.
Seven years ago, Louise decided to pursue her first love of art full time, watching her runway show debut of her pieces in Australia July 2018 here. In December 2018 Louise and her husband moved to Houston, Texas and she’s been expressing her passion for fashion and art ever since.
Louise’s multi-media pieces utilise textured oil paint, antique and vintage jewels, and textiles.
We got to speak with the fabulous Louise about all things art, fashion and life in general, we are so excited to have these incredible artworks available on The Block Shop.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
“I love being the Creative Director of my own business, elaurante,” says Louise. “What I love to do most in life is to spend time creating art inspired by the female form. Art that pays homage to classic fashion eras over time, and art that, through the use of texture, oil paints, colours and lines, tells a story.”
What Louise loves to do most in life is to spend time creating art inspired by the female form. Take a look at elaurante art on The Block Shop.

Are there any particular artists that inspire you?
I like to draw inspiration from my travels around the globe. My art is not only inspired by Haute Couture fashion, but architecture and places I have visited overseas. I am inspired by all Artists, Interior designers, fashion designers and creative people from around the world.
Where do you like to create your art?
My home is both my studio and my gallery. I am so lucky to be able to get up in the morning, grab a coffee and a brush and paint the day away.

Do you have a playlist / podcast you like to create to?
Anything current... that makes me want to dance. I often put on the radio where ever I am in the world, and off I go.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Luckily I don’t have a typical day, it changes all of the time. I can go from the studio to the office, to lunch at a charity event or dinner with family and friends.
How do you fit your art around life/kids?/work- Any tips?
I am definitely one who never stops working - 7 days a week!
Multi tasking is a natural way of living for me. My beautiful children are both adults now... however when they were younger I would love to have them join me and have a canvas next to mine that they could create their own designs on. Or, as kids often do, put paint on everything except their canvas!
