Growing up in Byron Bay, Vanessa spent innumerable hours of her youth engrossed in artmaking and creative adventures. She began her professional life as a Graphic Designer working for advertising agencies both in Australia and the UK.
Vanessa now holds separate tertiary qualifications and professional experience in Design, Visual Arts (Ceramics), and Education. Alongside working in galleries and design stores, over the past 8 years Vanessa has engaged communities in skill based arts workshops throughout SE Queensland with her business, Artfolk, encouraging thousands of people to embrace self expression and creative living.
As a practising artist, Vanessa has enjoyed 18 years working with clay to create both large exhibition works and functional ware in bleached and earthen colours. In 2022 she took up the brushes with vigour to paint vases and still life’s using a kaleidoscope of colour and pattern. Emboldened by the pace of painterly mark making and acrylics, Vanessa creates works inspired by domestic scenery, nature and her travels.
